Why The Living Room?
Life moves fast. We believe we all need places where we can slow down, put away the distractions, and simply be with one another. The Living Room is a community gathering space built around that idea—a place to share a cup of coffee, have a meaningful conversation, meet someone new, or just stay awhile. We want to create a space where people feel welcomed and known, where relationships can grow, and where we can rediscover the joy of being fully alive together.
We practice what we call radical hospitality—which simply means we want to serve you above and beyond what’s expected.
We want The Living Room to feel like your living room. We will have volunteer staff at The Living Room called “hosts.” They aren’t here just to make you a cup of coffee and point you toward a chair. They’re here to welcome you, make space for you, and take the time to get to know you.
So don’t be surprised if someone remembers your name, asks about your day, pulls up a chair, or goes out of their way to make you feel at home. We believe hospitality is about more than what we serve you. It’s about making sure you know that you belong here.
How it Works
We built this space as a gift for you. Even the coffee is a gift for you.
If you choose to enjoy your coffee here at The Living Room, it’s on us. There’s no charge, though you’re always welcome to leave a donation if you’d like. If you’d rather take your coffee to go, we simply ask that you pay what you can.
We’re not a full coffee shop, but we will always have our house blend, Welcome Home, along with a decaf option. You’ll also find cream and flavors to make your coffee your own, as well as tea. In the future, we may add canned drinks or baked goods. For now, though, feel free to bring your own food/snacks and make yourself at home.
Our coffee is roasted by our friends at Espresso Bay in Traverse City, MI. While we’ll be brewing up the medium roast Welcome Home, we also will have available for sale two other custom roasts for you to make at home. The light roast “Rise and Shine” and our dark roast “From the Dark.”
What We Believe
First off, we are followers of Jesus. The welcome we want to offer you is something we have first received from Him. We believe Jesus welcomed the stranger, ate with sinners, made room for the overlooked, and extended His love to all of us. That’s the kind of welcome we want to share.
You don’t have to believe what we believe to belong at The Living Room. We won’t push Jesus or our Christian beliefs on you. But if you ever have questions about life, faith, or Jesus, we’d love to talk with you. And if you’d like someone to pray with you about anything going on in your life, our hosts would be honored to pray with you right here, on the spot.
